Yes, they usually wait until 8-10 weeks before the first appointment. If you are very concerned about something, call back and get an appointment.

In the mean time you can go the store and buy over-the-counter prenatal vitamins. As long as it has 400mcg of folic acid, you will be good to go. I took prescription prenatals for my first two, and the OB for my third told me the over-the-counter prenatals are just fine.

Drink plenty of water - you are adding a pt of blood to your system so you need more water. Eat well, but don't over do it, you only need about you need only 300 or so extra calories a day (fewer during your first trimester). Instead of adding at meals, think of a "smart" snack, such as a glass of orange juice and a slice of whole-wheat toast with cheese or PB.

Congratulations!

First of all, Congratulations! Yes that is normal. Your visits will be 4 weeks apart until your 8th or 9th month, then it will be once a week. Call your Dr. back and ask about prenatal vitamins. If you have gained too much weight or show signs of retaining water during your first 4 weeks, your Dr. will prescribe a good healthy diet for you and baby. In the meantime, if you should have any sinus problems which is common during the spring, or catch yourself a spring cold, don't take any medication for it. Consult with your Dr. by phone first. You could also ask for some literature on pregnancy to be mailed to you or left at the front desk for you to pick up. Don't worry about anything you don't need to worry about. You're only a phone call away from your Dr.

Yes, it is absolutely normal for your doctor to not ask you to come in until you are around 10 weeks pregnant. I felt the same way you do when I first found that out. But don't worry, unless you feel something is not right, you should be just fine until then. Do take your prenatal vitamins, and get a book or two about pregnancy. They may help you understand what is happening to your body during the first month or two while you wait to see your doctor. Keep a little list of questions that you have to ask the doctor when you do go in, and if you have something that can't wait, don't be shy calling them and asking them about it. That's what they're there for.

Congratulations!

Definatly take another test just to be certain. False results happen more often than you realize. I know a few people that were tricked. A blood test is the only way to know for sure if you are pregnant. Your regular doctor should be able to test your blood and if you are pregnant, he/she should be able to give you the best advise for the next month until you see your ob/gyn. Do this before you start making yourself crazy with lifestyle changes. Good Luck!

Completely normal. My OBGYN will not see patients until 8-10 weeks. I went in at 6 weeks however because I was on prescription medicine that can't be taken during pregnancy...that's the only reason I got in earlier HOWEVER it was NOT a prenatal visit...there was no exam, no sonogram, no pregnancy test to confirm...it's strictly talking to the doctor about taking me off my medication.

If you are on prescription medicine, make sure to let the doctor know and they will get you in ASAP...otherwise you won't go in until 8-10 weeks (my first wasn't until 9 weeks). If you're like me you're wondering why they don't do a pregnancy test...They asked me if I had taken an at home test and I said yes...that was good enough for them.

Good luck! Don't worry!! You and baby will be fine until then! :)

Yup thats normal. When i went in for a blood test i was 6 weeks pregnant, and my OB didnt want to see me until i was about 10-12 weeks pregnant. its not abnormal to wait. Your chance of having a miscarriage drops after 12 weeks, so sometimes they wait and make sure your doing okay. Its very common it just depends on the dr. in the meantime act as though you are 100% pregnant (tests can be wrong). Eat right, rest and enjoy it!

First, YAY! Congratulations! Get some OTC prenatal vitamins if your OB says it's okay-or just have OB call in a prescription for them. Be sure to take them with food(probably best after dinner), cuz you may have a sensitive tummy right now. The only time I yarked when I was pg with my son was when I took my vitamin w/o enough food on my tummy. Watch what you eat. If you already exercise, it's okay to keep exercising. Just don't over do it.
Wishing you all the best.

This is very normal. Most ob's don't see you for your first appointment until you are 9-12 weeks along. Until then, you get lots of rest, and eat right. Go to the drugstore and start yourself on some prenatal vitamins. Everything will be fine. :-)

Yes, that's normal. There's really nothing to be done. Some doctors don't see you until your second tri-mester. Get some pre-natal vitamins. You can buy these OTC. Other than that: avoid hot tubs, and use gloves if you change kitty litter. Get a book like "What to Expect When You're Expecting". It will help you out.

I agree with the first, start taking prenatal vitamins, watching your diet depending on how it is already. No caffeine, smoking drinking. Doctors aren't usually needed this early in the pregnancy. It's completely normal.
