Hey.. Congrats.. I'm 17 weeks too. Due August 19th! I have been pondering over this for about a weeks and 1/2 now. I'm not feeling anything strong or anything that I know FOR SURE is a kick, but what I have been feeling for the past week or so is when I lay flat on my back (it has just barely started when I'm sitting but not as frequent or noticable) It's like a air bubble or a little pop in my lower stomach. Forever I was debating on wether or not it was just my food settling, but I'm pretty sure that it's kicking. Its usual in the same place, sometimes it moves to a different spot, but it seems like she likes to move around the most when her feet are on my right side. Maybe the weaker ones are actually her hands or something. I can actually feel this on the outside of my stomach if I hold my hand there. They are very random when they happen as far as how offten, but mostly occur at night when I lay down to watch t.v. and rest from the day.
Look for this ... I'd be interested to know if you feel the same thing! Keep me posted!!!

Well im 17 weeks also and last night I was really mad and I was crying alot because I was fighting with my boyfriend. When I calmed down, I definetly felt two little thumps at my lower belly while I was laying down. Its my first pregnancy so Im not 100% sure but It has to have been a kick because it felt like one. Also at night when Im laying down I feel abit of movement like gas or flutters. But either way I could be wrong. and if your not feeling anything and I am, then I still think its normal. How big is your stomach? Maybe you have a small baby?

Don't worry about feeling kicking yet. I began to know for sure that my baby was moving around about mid week 18, but I also know that for the past few weeks I've felt things that I thought were gas or a coming bowel movement which I think were actually my baby. It is hard to know for sure, especially with your first or if you are overweight. For me I was in bed and felt a movement and knew for sure finally. Again, don't worry, by the end it will be unmistakable. Besides, most doctors and books say its between weeks 16-22 when you start feeling it, so you are still on the early end. =-) Congratulations.

I'm 16.5 weeks. I've felt the shifting of weight inside, and the occasional unexplained jab, but I would definitely not consider it to be a "kick."
Very early on, (about 10 weeks) I was laying on my belly and I felt the "flutter" that everyone is talking about. I haven't felt it again without provocation since then. However, I notice a lot of movement and an occasional flutter when my husband pokes at or talks to my belly. (He puts his mouth right on my belly and talks, so I guess it's the vibrations that do it).
I too am looking forward to those surprise little flutters. I hear for first timers it can occur regularly as late as 24 weeks. I really hope that it doesn't take that long, but I'm accepting of the fact that it can take that long.
I'm going to the doctor tonight, so I feel that as long as I can see my little one doing fine on ultrasound, I just need to be patient until the regular kicks start.

Alot of times you won't feel kicking until around twenty weeks or after, especially if this is your first baby. You may feel fluttering at this stage and not even realize that it is the baby because it feels like other things that naturally happen to you. I didn't feel kicking with my first baby until almost exactly twenty weeks, when I went for my sonogram that determined I was having a girl. After that, I was excited, which I guess made the baby excited because I felt five distinct kicks. Just relax and enjoy the "kick-free" part of your pregnancy because soon your baby is probably going to be kicking you non-stop.

I am currently 18 weeks pregnant. When lying very still, I am sometimes feel slight movement, but nothing even close to resembling a kick yet.
I was told around the early to middle 20's weeks, the real kicks should start.

Yes, this is VERY normal. Most women don't feel movements until 18-22 weeks. The baby is so small and protected in your body that, even though your baby IS moving all over down there it is hard to detect. But, one day, VERY SOON, you will feel that first recognizable movement, and you will know what to look for. It is also possible that you may have felt movement, but just didn't realize it!

i'm also 17 weeks.
i understand the movement thing happens at different times with different people. (wouldn't it be wonderful if there were such thing as a "normal pregnancy"?!?)
anyway - i think i felt it a couple times - almost felt like a cross between a gas bubble & a slight muscle spasm. very strange.
but they're not consistent, yet. i'm told that by around week 20 they should be more identifiable & consistant.

About that time with both my kids I started feeling things. It wasn't really all out kicking though; it was more like fluttering in my stomach. I wouldn't be concerned about it, you sound pretty normal.
