Plain and simple Chris, No!
An official doctors sick certificate is by law a legal document on your health being unsuitable for work.
Not even a police officer or judge can override a doctors sick note,if a doctor says you can't work that is it.
Tell your employer politely that you will not be returning to work until deemed fit by the doctor.
If for any reason they threaten you with the sack, remind them that you would have grounds for unfair dismissal.
So put your feet up and get well soon, you have nothing to worry about and your boss has no right to tell you to work.

Simple answer: no!
As long as you have a sick note from the Doctor or hospital in your case, you will be entitled to sick time off work as well as sick pay. (Also depends on what's in your contract of employment, despite this, under statute, you are entitled to sick pay)
Here's a link I found which may explain more about sick pay and taking time off work:

It's funny that your employer can not make you work, but goverment can, lets take child support...you have a doctor note, that does not mean crap, they can put you in jail and then when you get out, go back to work and try to get caught with what is arrears.

No. The sick note is you passport away from work. Show it to your employer, if you can, He cannot force you to work when you are not fit. Good Luck.

No.
You can have your employer, or his HR representative arrested for that as they're clearly breaking the law.
as long as you have a sick note that clearly puts you off work, you should stay at home.

no a medical note or certificate overrides anything your employer can throw at you. if he insists or tries to sack you as a result take him to a tribunal, you will win guaranteed.
just don't let the medical note runout and as soon as your doc won't sign you off, get back to work so you don't give you boss an excuse to give you grief.

NO they can't. when you are signed off sick by your doctor IF you do go into work your NOT covered by the companies insurance. Also a doctor does not sign you off without good reason therefore if your getting hassled to go back to work you boss's are out of order
