Many players claim they love their club , their heart is there, and they'll stay for the rest of their careers. Then contract and pay time comes up, and all of the sudden, all that love talk is history and they're disgruntled until they have their way.
Now, Lamps - Chelsea icon no doubt - reportedly wants more money, as much as Ballack and Sheva at least, otherwise he'll "buy" himself out of his contract. Dunno how true these report are, but... Is it just the media making it sound bad or do players all have their mouth where the money is? Should Chelsea fulfill his wishes (and perhaps make their supporters pay for it, ontop of their already astronomical ticket prices) or should they just let him walk? What do you think.

I thik all footballers are overpaid and overrated, but even I can see that a club which owes its success to a squad, then decides to impose "superstars" on this squad at almost twice the salary is asking for trouble.
Did Abramovitch and Kenyon seriously think that Terry and Lampard would be happy to see Ballack and Shevchenko ruin the balance of the team, play crap and get more money for it?.
Of the two I think Kenyon is the more guilty because he's got the arrogance of playing with somebody elses' money. Abramovitch,if he wishes can pull the plug and walk away .from it.
The Chelsea supporters should make their voice heard by boycotting games and posting their protests on websites, supporter's forums etc. and refusing to pay more for tickets.
Why should fans be asked to subsidise the mediocre?.
But to answer your main question, let him go,I think his mind was made up a while ago. He wants out.

The media may make things look different than they are, but there may also be things that we see that are actually true. How can we ever be sure?

Despite what he's said or what the media says, this is his life and he should be able to do what he wants. The club might try and hold him, and they'll do all they can to keep him there, but if he can get out, then oh well. I think a players happiness is more important than the club's happiness. The club is not a person, the player is, and the player has real desires and emotions. Chelsea can do what they want to keep him there, that is fine, but they cannot completely enslave him. If he finds someway to get out and the club cannot do anything about it, then let him go.

I for one would be devastated if he left. He's a mind blowing footballer & if he was to leave Chelsea, it would be a disaster. Frank gets a lot of slack from non Chelsea fans, but if he left Chelsea to play for their club, they'de be over the Moon. He had a hard time at the World Cup but so did all our players, no one played well, but everyone is blaming Frank for us going out & that's not fair. I just want people to back off him a bit cos if he played for Man Utd or Arsenal or any other club, he would be adored, Look at whay he's done for Chelsea this Season, Wow 18 goals from Midfield, thats why he gets picked for England. He's fab so back off peeps, he's brill.

Lampard occupies an important part of the club psyche. He is the only "ordinary" local player to hold his place after the great Russian invasion. He raised his game to a truly international level and has become an icon for many young hopefuls. His loss has the potential to impact on supporters' morale and club spirit. He is a good solid player but his off-field contribution is incalculable.

first of all, I wouldn't trust media gossip.. what I think is that clubs should keep their icons, and not sell them to other clubs.. in this case i think they can reach a compromise.. I'm not really informed about premiership, but I think Lampard does more for the club the Sheva does.. then I'm sure Lampard himself wouldn't like going to other clubs, because Chelsea is one of the biggest and he's already made a career here...

He should go to a team like Valencia. Joaquin, Villa and Morenties would make it him five times the player he is a chelsea.

But the real question is: Does Lampard want to improve or just get money, praise and medals without doing very much?

Either way, sounds like a sweet deal to me.
