I know that this question has been asked before, and i've carefully read over the answers. but nothing seems to work. Every time i download a (movie) torrent, its in the .AVI format. thats fine, and i can watch it on my comp. and all, but i want to get it on to my dvd player.

Can anyone reccomend a converter or burner or something that will eventually get me watching my movies on my couch?

i dont want to burn the .avi file to the disk, i want to burn another type of converted video file.

First off what you are doing is illegal. Second, find or buy Nero. It has a wizard that will convert the avi to dvd format, then burn it to DVD-R, which should play on a DVD player, provided it supports burned disks. cheers.

There are DVD players that play avi files. The first came out by a brand called KISS. Its much faster to burn avi's to DVDs than converting each file to play on normal DVDs players and the added benefit is that you can fit more files onto one DVD in the avi format than in the normal DVD format.

I use Diko, it's cheap (about $25) and it works very well. It will convert and burn the AVI file so that it can be played in a regular DVD player. You can also create menus and it has lots of nice options.
