One year when my boyfriend was in the military he was stationed at a military base (don't remember which one) over seas and didn't have a lot of money to buy me a birthday present, he also didn't have a lot of choices of where to buy me anything. There are these little round chocolates that are my favorite and he bought a box. On my birthday I got a tiny box with one of the chocolates inside. It was still individually wrapped and I thought it was really sweet I bit into it and that's when I realized he had put a note inside wishing me a happy birthday and telling me he loved me. He had went through the whole box trying to open one of the chocolates, put the note in and put it back together and then re-wrapped it. Even though it wasn't much it was the best gift I ever got because it was the most thoughtful. No one else has been able to top that.

2years ago in September I lost my mum 1 day before my birthday. We were going away the friday so she brought my birthday presents up on the Thursday, A purple Bracelet and some other goodies. I value that present more than anything else, cos it was my very last birthday present from my mum. I was on holiday celebrating my birthday when i got a phone call saying she had been run over and killed. I don't feel I want to celebrate anymore, cos I could'nt be with her when she died.

My father was a very busy man, struggling to provide for his family, but once he managed to pick me up from school and took me to the movie, then we went for chinese food before heading back home. When he put me to bed he told me "I love you, son" He past away a couple of weeks later from a cerebral attack. I just turned out ten.
That day out and his words were his last gift to me, and the most significant one.

My friend just had a baby last year so she wasn't working and had no money and on my birthday she gave me 4 homemade CDs that she made from her collection and they each had their own theme... like chilling music, amp you up kinda stuff, wierd stuff, etc. And I LOVED IT!!! It was the most thoughtful, time consuming and appreciated gift I have ever gotten.

I think when your best friends create something which you can keep for the whole of your life to remind you of your friendships. For example, homemade phot albums in which your friends have put personal photos of your lives together which remind you of the good times.
