It really depends on the culture.
In some cultures it represents passion and love. Red is often worn by brides in Asia.
In South Africa, red is a color of mourning.
Red also represents danger -- stops signs, stop lights and flashing emergency lights are red.
Red can be a color of power -- red carpets are used for royalty and celebrities.
In some cultures, red denotes purity, joy, and celebration. Red is the color of happiness and prosperity in China and may be used to attract good luck.
Finally, the Bolsheviks used a red flag when they overthrew the Tsar, thus red became associated with communism.
