A trapezium can basically be defined as a quadrilateral with at least one pair of opposite sides parallel.

The formula for area is:

(1/2) * (sum of the lengths of the parallel sides) * (height)

Height is the distance between the two parallel sides.

Area formula for a Trapezoid:

area=1/2(a+b)h
where A and B are parallel sides and h is altitude or height.

A=(a+b)h/2
if a and b are 2 parallel sides and h is the distance between 2 parallels. A is Area.
Another formula for area if all sides are known. If sides are a,b,c and d,
and a and c are parallel (where a is the longer parallel side) then,
A=(a+c)/4(a-c) squareroot (a+b-c+d)(a-b-c+d)(a+b-c-d)(-a+b+c+d)
