They do not house men and women together in the military. Need we say WHY? Where do you house gay people? Do they have to get their own tent? Or just one gay person in a barrack with straights? Its just not practical. If you are gay just stick with the decorating or become a cop. But stay out of the military. We don't have enough TENTS!

Forgive me again but am I the only non US person who doesn't look at this and just laugh.......
OOOOOHHHHH the big bad gay people are so scary, and you call yourselves the home of the brave, Christ, more like gutless cowards.
Britain, Canada, France, Germany and even Israel have had openly serving gay members of their military for years and guess what, no harm, no fowl. Only Americans and ironically most radical Muslim countries seem to have a problem with gays. Makes you wonder.
As another note, it is factual that most US servicemen today don't care or are in anyway concerned about openly gay members serving. Second, there are currently about 60,000 gay and lesbians in the US military serving on the front lines of Iraq and elsewhere.
Here's my question, who's the better and braver citizen? The one who sits back and tries to deny other citizens their rights, dignity and responsibilities....or.....the gay man who fights for the same country knowing full well he will be neither given equal rights, dignity or even a modicum of respect.
Answer that, if you can.

As a 20 year veteran of the military I can state with certainty that gays have always been housed with straights and with very little problems. Straight men are far more likely to harass women they gays are to harass people in their barracks. Just because you are attracted to someone does not mean you have to act on it. More than that, it has been my experience that the men who are most vocal about concerns of unwanted male attention are men at whom no gay man would look twice. I think straight guys are just terrified that men will treat them the way they themselves treat women.

I love questions/comments like this cause they are just crazy. Let me think...hmm in basic training with 60 other guys the 4 gay guys there were bunking next to everyone else. Tech school, yep once again was with a room mate(who knew i was gay and didnt care...ooo scary). First base, had my own room(thats cause everyone had their own) but i shared a bathroom with was friends with and neighboors with straight guys.

They should be housed with everyone else. Why should they be treated any different. Maybe they are not looking for love or sex. Maybe they are looking for a way to help their country out to the best of their abilities. People have to stop being so homophobic and just all work together to win this war. People like you are the reason why we lost Vietnam.

During my 20 years in the Marines there were several occasions where women bunked with the guys. We did set up hours for use of the head (bathroom in civy talk) but it all revolves around respect and maturity.
Never had a problem when this occured.
