I am not interesting in having a child or beign a surrogate, I jsut saw a talk show wher Angela Bassett and her husband did it and I was wondering how it happens. Who genes do they have? Is it the father's sperm and the mom's eggs or is it the surrogate mother's eggs?
Details please?

There are two types of surrogates, a gestational surrogate and a traditional surrogate.
A gestational surrogate would just be the incubator, meaning that it would be the mother's egg and the father's sperm, they would just be using the surrogate's uterus to carry the embryo to full term.
A traditional surrogate would have her egg, and the father's sperm used, and carry the baby to full term, so in a sense, it would be her baby with the father.
Now, generally a traditional surrogate would be given drugs such as Clomid to stimulate egg production, so that when she was given the IUI (intrauterine insemination) there would be a greater chance of acheiving pregnancy.
A traditional surrogate would possibly (I'm not exactly sure) be placed on birth control to keep from producing eggs and go through IVF (in-vitro fertilization.)

it depends on the couple. if the woman is capable of producing her own eggs, the child will have the parents genes. sometimes they need the egg and just use to donor's.

usually it is a person who agrees to carry your fertilized egg. normally it is your egg and the sperm of your husband.
