but not me and the human being

It is unanimous that the human animal (Homo sapiens) are the most stupid in that they destroy their habitat and home with no obvious adaptive purpose, beyond a possible drive to find a way out in to the galaxy to trash other planets. No other animal does this, except certain parasites, but that is OK because there are always lots of hosts for them and not many of parasites around really. The Human species seems to fail to recognise that they only have one habitat at the moment and therefor should not be destroying it just yet.

Anyway, the second most stupid animal. Most likely candidate is the Capercaillie (Tetrao urogallus) a large bird the size of a turkey but looks like a grouse. It eats pine needles. Have you any idea how indigestible pine needles are, or even how completely lacking in any nutritional value they are? Put it this way, cardboard is more fattening, and rich in protein by comparison. Thus we have the first sign of stupidity, a very large bird with heavy dietry requirements and it eats the bird food equivalent to news paper as a staple.
Point 2: These big birds can't fly. I mean they give it a good shot and are always pretending to, but a trained observer can spot they are not. They are actually just running very fast and jumping for a bit. You can tell they can't really fly because they keep hitting trees and fences. They are not know for poor eyesight, they just can not fly for peanuts, or even pine needles.
Point 3: Despite point 2 they still do their damndest to live in very dense pine woods. Fine for food, but when they try and get around they can hardly squeeze between the trees and as to flying.... Its a problem, they are somewhat endangered, especially in the UK, but sometimes nature just throws out a dud and does its damndest to get rid of it. Given enough time a savage mouse could bring down a capercaillie, they just have no escape tactic or defence. Foxes, wolves, wildcats, stoats and weasels just see them as 'slow-food'.

Third most stupid animal: The tree climbing kangaroos of New Guinnea.
Lovely idea, but really, really stupid. Look at your average Aussie Kangaroo, scale it down, put it in a tree, and what happens? Exactly, they fall off.
These cute little animals are determined to live in teh canopy of very tall rainforest trees, but simply do not have the physiology required to do it and are forever stumbling, slipping and falling. Really, not a climbing family. The only reason they never went extinct is that the dominant and largest predator on the island (before man) is the size of a healthy hamster and eats ants, or beetles if it feels really reckless.

Wombat - any animal that can stand behind another animal that is digging a burrow and not move out of the way of the dirt being flicked in his face has got to be stupid.

For me it is sheep without doubt. In a field full of grass they always try to get at the grass on the other side of the fence or wall.

Also if one sheep in a flock finds a hole in the fence and goes through it all the rest will blindly follow it.

Domestic Turkey. They have been seen to stand in a rain storm. looking up to see what is hitting them in the head, and drown.

FYI: Pigs only eat where they poop when men pen them up! They are VERY clean aniimals and very intelligent. They make excellent housepets except for their size. They are smarter than dogs and very clean.

My first inclination was to say man, but you said no human beings.

That taken, I'll go with the sponge.

Probably the dodo. As a proof of its stupidity, it's no longer around.
