Is it correct these days to call a laptop a PC? It sounds wrong to me and i'm sure it is but i'm not sure why... a laptop is kind of a small personal computer, albeit not a desktop PC.

Is it correct or incorrect to refer to a laptop as a PC?

PC=Personal Computer, as opposed to a server or multi-user workstation, so technically yes, a laptop is a PC.

Most people who refer to PCs as such, however, really mean PCs running Windows (generally as opposed to Mac), but saying that a Macintosh computer is not a PC is technically incorrect (few Macs are run primarily as multi-user workstations or desktops).

A laptop is a just a personal computer that's portable - most people are referring to a desktop computer when they say PC, though.

PC just stands for personal computer - technically one that runs Windows, but most people mean any computer for personal use, as opposed to a big mainframe such as those used by corporations.

The bigger one which sits on/under the desk is usually referred to as a desktop machine, the smaller portable version as a laptop. Both are PCs.

Incidentally, there is a tendency now to use the term "notebook" instead of laptop; this once referred to a specific size of portable PC, but now is used to emphasise the fact that laptops in fact don't work terribly well on the lap - they don't get the air they need, get rather warm and so does your lap!

No it is not correct to call a laptop sometimes called a notebook a PC. A PC is upgradable unlike a laptop. Also it is psysically different for example the processor in a PC can be upgrade as long as it is the same socket but in laptop you can't. A small desktop computer is one that is small but does not have a monitor and keyboard built into the base unit and a PC does not have a battery built in and don't usually have a PC Card slot in them.

pc means personal computer, so by definition a laptop is a pc. It is a laptop pc as opposed to a desktop pc which is the bigger not so portable variety.

I do not refer to them as PCs, I believe a PC is a desktop computer, not a laptop or notebook.

It's correct. Any system that runs Windows is generally referred to as a PC. I usually call them PC notebooks.

A pc is now usually called a desk top as it sits on a desk. And a lap top is named because it sits in your lap, but a lap top cannot be called a pc even the your laptop is usually your personal computer.
