As a Republican, I do respect the Democrats. I want their party to be strong, because it's better for all of us. In so many cases, we agree on principles, but get hung up on the solutions. With that said, the Democrats are stronger when they actually have solutions. That's what been so frustrating to me in recent years, but it may be turning around. I still think this is the greatest nation on earth. to have the diversity of people and opinions we have, and we (mostly) aren't killing each other over it, that is a luxury not seen in most of the world. I don't mind that Democrats care more about freedom of speech than I do, because somebody does need to care - they allow me to stand for what I stand for (e.g. national security, more economic freedom). Without opposition party affiliates, government gets corrupted. I know we see that today, but also realize the two party system and the checks and balances are dealing with the problem pretty peacefully.
Kudos to you for asking a question that produced an answer from Steve C. to which I actually gave a thumbs-up. Huge accomplishment!

The easiest and most cost effective solution to partisan fighting and moral decline is to simply kill off all the Libs. That would take care of both issues.
OK, now that I've assured my self plenty of fun little thumbs down- I am just kidding. I wouldn't really want to do that.
Seriously though, there is no way to end partisan fighting nor would we ever want to. However, there is a thin line between productive partisanship and counter productive partisanship. On one hand we need the arguing to balance out the country and prevent a one way dictatorship. Yet too much fighting causes nothing to get done because they try to sabotage each other out of anger and end up sabotaging the country. That is why I disagree with the sentiment of some that we need a strong third party in this country. Countries with many political parties get little done because there is too much dissent and argument. I think we all just need to disagree yet remember that America's best interests are most important not the interests of one party.
As for moral decline - Well, this is a situation that has been intentionally caused and is being intentionally furthered. I guess I look at it this way I can't make the rest of the country see how rude and disgusting they are becoming but I can teach my son not to be that way. It really does start with how we raise our kids. That's why my son will never go to public school.

Good question.It applies to EVERYBODY.
1- No more liberal bashing if Conservative bashing is "vulgar and impolite". Remember, the ideas of desegregation, Rock and Roll and partying once in a while are "liberal".
2- Get a grip on hypocritical and sopciopathic politician who run as "conservative moralists" then turn out to be phonies.
They do not represent you well,Earnest. Hell, even Newt Gingrich was having an affair WHILE he was grilling Bill Clinton in 1998 for doing the same thing!
3- The term "moral decline" is I think,a bit harsh. It is actually better NOW than it was when some pro-conservative hatreds went unchecked. Nowadays we are freer to talk, and thus find solutions.
4- Dont romanticize the past. Some long-dead conseravtive ideas are not used today because both you and I cant be bothered with them.
5- Take a closer look at Christian monotheism. Isnt it as belligerant as Islam sometimes? Ann Coulter called a man (John Edwards) a "F@gg*t" for doing what he believed was the Lord's work by helping the poor. Why? Because the author of "Goddless:Inside the Church of Liberalism" HAD NO RATIONAL EXPLANATION FOR HER HATRED.
6- Rememer that you CANNOT move into a better future by trying to relive a bad past.
7- Our ecomnomy and our quality of life is compromised by Karl Rove's political manuvuer that "Conservative=good and Liberal=bad" Lie. Most American's have a healthy liberalism on many issues, you and I included.
8-Dont worry about the North/South argument. We are all in the same country and we need to remeber that.
9- Rememeber that if you actually buy that Republican tatic that acceptance of gays,or Jews, or Agnostics who question the bible equals a "moral decline" look at what violencve you could get away with BEFORE desegragtion in this country.
The facist fifties were hardly "moral".
10- Remember and use the patriotic Democratic ethic that the working class should have just as much a say as the aristocratic conservative elite.
Thanks;

On the issue of moral decline, this country has never been an example of good behavior (and neither has any other country for that matter). Remember the powerful rise of Victorian morality (that movement has killed so many marriages and families with unnaturally stale relations between husband and wife) was in response to extreme and disgustingly immoral excesses of a previous era (similar to the immorality which brought on the Dark Ages). My solution is to morality is objective, scientific knowledge combined with moderation from Victorian excesses.
Now what of the partison fighting? I see no issue with disagreement, but there is clearly a problem in factional rule/tyranny and "elite" disregard for the will of the people. My solution is to empower the people to discuss the issues however they choose to organize their discussions and bind the power of the representatives to act according to the will of their constituents. They can continue to disagree and argue, but they will have to convince their constituents of their agendas before they go and mess things up for us. There will be much less of a political party division, because that factor will not be as important, and factional control/tyranny will dissolve away.

i think of via economic concern being undesirable that maximum individuals have became offended and function been too worried with regard to the pressures of conserving a job and a roof over their heads than they have the morals of coaching their infants what's nice and what's incorrect. Our government used to yell "terror" daily on the television and scared 0.5 the individuals to death. Terrorists have been with us continually and could continually be with us, American or in any different case. We discovered approximately water-boarding which replaced into outrageous, the states have been separated into purple and blue states, the vast wigs have been getting fat bonuses jointly as 0.5 of united statesa. replaced into ravenous. human beings don't experience the will for morals while they see their very very own government doing each and all the crooked issues that have been achieved and then robbing us blind. good examples could desire to be set quite by way of our government besides as mothers and fathers, and the government has shown us that they are morally corrupt, so why could desire to we be any distinctive? it is not merely youthful human beings i'm conversing approximately the two.

I don't know. The last time we were truly united was on Sept. 11th, 2001. That is sad but true. I don't know anyone who was not pissed that day and didn't want retribution. As time passes, people forget the anger and pain of that day and the way that Americans united and helped one another. One idea might be to try to eliminate the misconceptions about each party. Liberals are not all baby-killers and Conservatives are not all war-mongers. We have a tendency on both sides to associate the other side with the extreme left or the extreme right. I think it starts one person at a time, so starting today, I am not going to slam Republicans anymore, and am going to try to give real answers instead of spreading false beliefs about the other side of the aisle.

One way to make a statement would be to vote for a third party in the next election. If enough were put into office, then maybe all sides would wake up start working to solve problems.
Instead of waiting until the next election, everyone could write their representatives and if enough present the same thoughts, maybe your politician would be willing to work to achieve that goal(s).

The main reason for the decline in morality, and yes it is declining, is the fall of the home. If you think that morality hasn't changed, you need to look out of that bubble your in. Here are a few areas that have changed drastically.
1. Less than a hundred years ago, debt was considered immoral. Only a fool would put themselves in debt since the debtor was considered a slave to the lender. Today, debt is now seen as a right of passage to adulthood by many people out there.
2. In the past, a woman was considered a whore, slut, or tramp if they had sex outside of marriage. A man was considered impure and sinful if they did. Now, we teach safe sex to our children since it is ok for them to be sexually active.
Crimes like domestic violence and home invasions are on the drastic rise and this can be largely contributed to guys and girls not knowing how to interact together since they no longer have a model to work from. The best way for kids to learn how a marriage is supposed to work is by seeing their own parents setting the example. When they see their parents divorce, never together, yell at each other, or only one side of the relationship (whether that be living with their father or mother), that is what they expect when to occur when they choose to wed.
We as a society to need wake up. Marriage isn't a right or something to be taken likely. It is a life altering chose of self sacrifice to meet the other person's needs before your own. It is a choice to raise your children in an atmosphere that will benefit them and the generations to come. We are so quick now to say we no longer love the other or we have irreconcilable differences, when what we mean to say is we are too immature and selfish to make things work.
I was given quite the shock yesterday, when my wife told me that when she was asked to name her hero, she said I was. This completely made me feel really ashamed, for I don't see it that way and have many faults, including not always placing her and my kids first in my life. She went on to say that the reason was that when we had sex outside of wedlock, she became pregnant. Now I could have claimed it wasn't mine and just left her and the child to fend for themselves. Instead I chose to marry her, since it was the honorable and right choice to be made. We went from being single individuals just two months prior to being married and learning how to coexist.
We have been married now for 6 years and have 3 children with 1 on the way. It hasn't been easy, but we both have taken the steps to work things out, no matter what.

Ahhh....but the main missing ingredient is RESPECT.
Dems can't respect Reps....Reps can't respect Dems.
People have no respect for those with differing opinions.
BUT....if we respect ourselves....then naturally respect for others will come.
We are not a socially polarized country by default...we ARE polarized by non-respect.
Here's something to try!
The next time someone says something that you do not agree with.....smile and say....I don't agree with you....but respect your opinion and view.
You would be surprised how fast the nit-picking in this country would stop.

to be honest... I don't think we have any less morals than we had 100 or 200 years ago.. but in todays world everyone is in everyone else's business... a celebrity can't fart in Jamaica without it being in the paper with a big 'ole caption right over it... and such is the way in the world today... we know of all the things that happen ... whereas in the past people were for the most part blissfully ignorant to the goings on of other people....
great question by the way
