I suspect I may have a slight UTI and I want to try cranberry juice before I go to the doctor... but how much cranberry juice should I drink?

Thanks

Well, if you think you are beginning to have one, now is definitely the time to get on the cranberry! I have had UTI's before, and have found that my best bet was cranberry capsules rather than drinking it. There are many types available but just look for a "higher potency" one. The caps I buy are 1 capsule = approx 4 - 8oz. glasses of juice (500 mg). Here's the kicker......by taking a cap that's made of 100% cranberry fruit solids, you're forgoing the added sugar, calories, flavoring, and coloring. When you have an infection of any sort, it will feed off sugar; so by staying off sweetened juice and other foods/drinks containing refined sugar you'll be doing yourself an added service. The best part is you will see significant results in just a day or two due to the potency of the capsules. If it's seems kind of bad, start with a double dose, and take 2-3 times a day until symptoms subside. The most important thing is to take your meds an hour before or after each meal, so that your body doesn't have to fight with anything else for absorption. Hope it helps!

A doctor once told me that lemon juice is even better than cranberry juice for a UTI. I personally hate cranberry juice, so this was wonderful news for me. I drank a lot of lemon water and lemonade (with real lemons/lemon juice of course) and it helped me a lot. Try it.

I would recommend Four glasses a day of cranberry juice . Also take 2,000 to 5,000mg of vitamin C preferably in powder form. Also it's a benefit to drink 1tbsp. of apple cider vinegar with 1tsp. of honey in a glass of water with meals. This helps the body fight off the infection.

Here is a great article about home treatments for UTI:

FYI - I had a UTI and didn't get it treated right away and it became more difficult to treat with antibiotics as a result. I would have saved myself a lot of discomfort if I had gone to the doctor right away.
