Constable, judge, sherrif. Elected official vary from one city to the next. Grapevine TX has an appointed city manager instead of a Mayor. Colleyville, 5 miles down the road has an elected Mayor.

Go visit your town hall and ask them. Many of the elected low level positions are low pay or no pay at all but an excellent way to get to know the local environment and establish credentials for the next step up.

You could also look at school boards, lions clubs, rotary, chamber of commerce, red cross and a whole host of social organizations. For practise, try Toastmasters, its an excellent and friendly way to see how you fare in a meeting.
