One of the few times that I have completely agreed with you, Steve . And, ironically enough, I just posted a question that's very similar to this one !!
I think we need to remember who we really are and 'get right back where we started from' !!!

I think we have our media to blame for most of this. I'm sure there are plenty of people working together like normal human beings its just we will never see this happening. The media feels if there is no conflict then there is no story to be told. We are slapped in the face with all of these negative things that go on we never see the good things that go on. Not all Americans hate each other I bet you will find that they are in the minority. I completely agree that we need to work on solutions for Social Security Reform, Immigration etc but as one person I find it disappointing and at times hopeless. The and the only voice I have is through a politician that I do not agree with.
I think I'm ready to move to Canada lol

You hit the nail on the head when you talked about both sides of the aisle having good ideas. The problem is neither side wants to admit their ideas are not perfect.
What we have forgotten is Democrat or Republican we are ALL still Americans. When we work together there is nothing we cannot solve. But like you say when insults and name calling is the dominant mode we accomplish nothing be generating hatred.

Very true. The name calling and pouting needs to stop. Both sides do have some good ideas and they should get past the games and worrying about the next election. Instead they should work together and make some things happen so they can be an example for the rest of the country.

I am also saddened by the state of our country, but the real villans are the giant mulitnational corporations who have no loyalty to the US. They control our politicians because the pols need the money that they provide to win elections. These people are the true enemies of the American people. Corporations are considered to be persons by our law, but unlike humans, they have no soul, no heart, and no loyalty to their country.
It is these corporations, the pols that they have bought, and the traitors in our country who are promoting amnesty for tens of millions of third-world aliens who are in this country illegally. The only people who benefit from giving millions of aliens who have no loyalty to the US citizenship are big business, and the Hispanic pols who want the votes of these foreigners. The American public is getting screwed.
Any politician who votes for this Kennedy/McCain bill is a traitor to his country, and should be voted out ASAP! Contact your US Congress persons and Presiente Jorge Boosh at
http://www.congress.org/congressorg/home/ to protest this outrage!

Manners, respect, and restraint are out of style. I doubt it will change anytime soon, but, one can hope. In the least, we could be well served by leadership in Congress and in the White House that directly addresses this issue, tips his or her hat to both parties past for their good ideas, and, address the serious issues with reconciliation for the future!

Sometimes I wish I had been born a few decades earlier. Yes I am saddened by the state of our country and the way it is going. Morals and values are no longer important and everyone is out for themselves, the idea of community has been lost.

There isn't one aspect of govt. which has performed an any level better than a C minus for the last six years.
Even a country as great as this can't withstand historically bad leadership for 8 years without a major impact.
What needed to happen on '06 happened and it has helped. In '08 Bush will leave and his era will end and this country can begin the long road to recovery from this long national nightmare
