I read somewhere that most people lie on their resume. They add months to a job that did not work out, add college degrees that do not exist and even make up fake companies and list professional references that are friends, who act like a boss.

Is there anyone here that will not get all preachy and actually admit they lied on their resume or application for employment?

Put it to ya this way I have NOT lied & currently experiencing cronic unemployment! It is common for people to lie about not lying when confronted! Employers H/R people want you to spin/write resume's to suit whatever the detailed requirments are. So thousands of bobble-heads race around creatively "embellishing" their true work history! Best spin-writng hypocrites & actor gets the job most of the time! This is just another major factor why USA is so dam superfiscial! So the message here is clear America is the BIG lie & everyone is doing it so much honest people are outcast ostracized!

I found out by accident that I had lied. I have a double major listed on my resume. But the college for some reason changed the designation to a major and a minor. I have since had this corrected, but was rather upset when an employer questioned me on this discrepancy.

I did not mean it, I had been listing that for years before it was caught.

My husband is a Human Resources Director. He hires everyone who works for the company where he works. Tons of people lie on their resumes, forge letters of recommendation, list jail-time as working for a State Agency, invent university degrees, etc. If you get caught, the only punishment is that you don´t get the job. Many people think it is worth trying. If you do get the job, and the lies are discovered later, you usually just get fired. Anyway many, many people do it--even if they won´t admit it!

I really try not to lie on my resume... but leaving out stuff about a job is not lieing, its withholding information.

I have lied on a resume. I dont think anyone can say they honestly have not, if it isnt length of time you worked there, its something else like what you did there.
