Just make sure you are eating 100g of protein a day and drink cranberry juice to prevent UTIs which sugar increases the risk of. Try to eat healthily, and as you know sugar is not very healthy, and most artifical sweeteners are NOT recommended during pregnancy.

Take care, and remember if you don't feel you are communicating well with your doctor, and that you have mutual respect, find a new caregiver.

Yes, it is an issue with gestational diabetes, not to mention that it puts your child at risk for childhood diabetes as well.

When I was pregnant, my OB told me that if High Fructose Corn Syrup was in the ingredients, NEVER eat or drink it. I use that theory to this day and have researched the negative affects of HFCS, not just in pregnant women, but children and others as well. I won't touch the stuff...it is found in everything from soda to ketchup. I buy only products without HFCS and it has made a huge difference in my life and in my health.

Good luck to you - and congratulations on the pregnancy!

other than what everyone else says sugar goes straight to your thighs literally! when you eat sugar, as it travels through your blood steam the cells (fat cells) in your thighs absorbs the sugar, they LOVE sugar, so as they absorb sugar the cells get bigger and bigger, and thats what causes cellulite. you can't get rid of cellulite. so thats when people say, "look shes skinny with cellulite"
so next time you pick up a candy bar or drink soda, think of your thighs.

firstly, it keeps your baby from becoming too big while he/she is still in your womb. that way you'd have an easier delivery. secondly, high blood sugar increases your risk of pregnancy-induced diabetes. trust me, that's something you do not want. good luck!
