put a cup of vinegar and a couple cups of water in it and turn it on... heat for a bit... and use a scrub pad after it has cooled... that should remove a lot of the residue. I use that for my coffee maker as well and it works great!

then try using water that has been Reverse Osmosis'd... it won't leave that flaky residue from the minerals in water

1. Try adding 1/2 cup vinegar and bring to a boil.
2. Bring water to a boil, shut off and add 1/2 baking soda.
3. This one I have tried for coffee stains in pots. Bring to a boil and drop in 6 denture cleaner tablets and leave overnight. Don't know if it will work for your problem but may be worth a try.
