You sign up to take them usually with your guidance counselors help. Then the Saturday of the test, you go and take them. (Bring at least 2 #2 pencils and a calculator)
To prepare for them, you might want to pick up a book on how to prepare for them (printed by PRINCETON Review, they make up the SAT's) and really improve your vocabulary. There's a book called "Word Smarts" (I think) that will help to improve your vocabulary.
You may also want to check with the colleges that you're applying for and see if they will accept ACT scores as well. The ACT's are usually "easier" than the SAT's.
Good luck!

You sign up for the test at a time that's good for you and when it's being offered in your area. Either choose a website to get the info or go to your high school's guidance office. The SATs are offered most months at various locations. Sign up, pay your money, and then hope your math and verbal skills are up to snuff.

Just go to the university that you are planning on attending and tell them(counselor) that you would like to be scheduled for the next SAT class - and maybe study up too before you take it.
