why the word filthy? does that mean that some of us are squeaky poor?

cause they are saturated with money, much like a filthy person is saturated in dirt...

Money; originally, money obtained dishonestly. For example, She didn't like the job but loved the filthy lucre in the form of her weekly paycheck. This term comes from the Bible (Titus 1:11), where it refers to those who teach wrongly for the sake of money. In time it came to be used loosely, and usually jokingly, for money in general, and in the mid-1900s gave rise to the jocular slang term the filthy for "money." Although both versions may be dying out, the expression filthy rich, for "extremely wealthy," survives.

It's an oxymoron probably meaning that you're rich while at the same time literally filthy because money is dirty.

You see since they have so much money they're literally rolling in the stuff and are so busy counting the stuff they don't have time to take baths thus making them stinkin,filthy but yet rich.:)

Because money is often referred to as fithly lucre, filthy because of the sin it connects to.

Money can bring out the greed in people not to mention drugs, sex and rock and roll.

the rich get rich by not using water.. they save up on the water bills.. making them filthy.

MMM I thought maybe it was because money is one of the dirtiest (filthiest if you will) things you can posess. Tons of germs on it.... think of how many hands it goes through in a day, week or (ewwwww) a year!
