As on today, there is no relevance of the expanded expression of each letter in ICICI name. The group of companies under ICICI banner are not any more said in their full form - legally or commercially or otherwise. Legally they have assumed the name as ICICI bank Limited or ICICI Webtrade Limited and so on.

However, formerly the ICICI used to stand for Industrial Credit and Investment Corporation of India Limited

ICICI used to stand for "Industrial Credit and Investment Corporation of India". It was a development finance institution formed in the mid 1950s to channelize funds from the world bank and other sources to industries in India.

As of today, the full form of ICICI is no longer in use and the organization has re-invented itself in the last 10 years. It has evolved itself into a universal bank. This process started with the creation of ICICI Bank by ICICI Ltd. the parent company for the purpose of carrying out banking. Subsequently, ICICI merged itself with its subsidiary - ICICI Bank Ltd. - and became one entity only i.e. ICICI Bank.

The term ICICI is currently being used only as a brand name and for no other purpose.
