why are you so fascinated with video games? I have had my share of GameBoy moments, but I really don't know why gaming is so popular...please explain :)

I am sure you are not the only women to be asking this question. hehe. The reason why i Belive that we play videogames is to:
one: It is our time and place to get away from the troubles of life and just let our minds wonder
two: I think that men have a need for imagination and playing games lets us get to that place that we wish we could be or maybe fills a void that cant be filled in Real life.
three: Its fun as hell :p

Because games are a way to escape the problems of the world and to release anger from the world. Plus it's exciting.
I know most people that play videogames are guys. Be careful how you write down your questions because you can offend people (girl gamers) with this question, stating that only guys play. This is probably something you didn't know about so I'm not offended, plus I'm not that sensitive.

Seriously, it was part of our childhood. We grew up playing video games. It was a whole new world for us. It was the equivalent to Girls inviting their friends over to play with dolls. We'd invite our friends over to play our Nintendo's and Sega's. Gaming brings people together, it's a whole lot of fun. Sometimes it has it's frustrating moments, but we still manage to see through the bad times to enjoy every moment of completing a tough level, beating a hard boss, gaming with your friends. It might be a bit hard to understand from a girls point of view, but us guys have always enjoyed our games since we we're able to grab a controller and mash random buttons. It's a world we like to escape to. Once a gamer, always a gamer.

It is a hobby, nothing more. Or would the women of the world rather their mates go to the bar every night or sit on myspace all day(most chicks sit on myspace ALL DAY). You can equate our videogame playing to all of the stupid shows you guys watch ((down with pop culture crap reality TV)). The day you'd rather have your man out of site instead of in the house playing a videogame, thats when your relationship is really in trouble. And hopefully your not jealous of a machine.

Games allow you to delve into a new world where your actions are dictated and on some games require little to no intelligent thought. Games are much like a book except for the whole intelligent thought.

Not just the boys. I'm female. Me and my son love the ps2 and xbox 360. My mom also plays the ps2 games. It's enjoyable and some of the games are wicked.

Well, we - boys - always wanted to compete, to be the best, to be well known. In ancient history men were fighting always, while women were making food, etc. I think the competing is in our blood, so we can compete now in many ways: such like hunting, sports, etc. One of the sollution is to play video games that is beneficial: 1. it gives us relaxation, we like that 2. it gives fascinating feelings when we win! So it is one of sorts of competing and entertainment.

I agree with dunk and dreamer. It is how we chose to spend our free time. I come to realize that alot of girls do not have their own equivalent to video games for guys (except girls who play video games as well). Sure some girls like shopping and things like they but I do not believe they have one thing that they can spend hours on daily. That is why I feel they just do not understand how us guys can do it. This of course is just speculation.

guys, if you haven't noticed, mature much slower than women do. And they are easily entertained. So if you give them something that has flashing lights or that you get to shoot a gun in it, guys will be all over it. It's something for them to do to pass the time. Guys aren't like us and cant be entertained by cell phones and texting as easily. There just easy to entertain.
