you're gonna have to pull them.. this means digging out the bulbs.. all of them. they tend to grow in clusters.. sorry to tell you.
If it's wild onion, it smells like onion. If it's nutsedge, it doesn't. If it's nutsedge.. god help you.. get some weed-b-gone and stay after it!

I live in Tn and know exactly what you mean.
We have always just embraced our yard onions as a part of life.
The first mow of the spring has always been defined by the gourmet stench of the delightful little yard onions.
I never even thought about trying to get rid of the boogers.
After the 1st mowing of the season the onions are little hard to track down to pull up.
Don't worry , your yard isn't the only yard sprouting onions- be sure to mow it before they flower though.

I don't think they're onions. I think they're nut sedge, and almost impossible to get rid of. DO NOT PULLTHEM! They grow from a tuber, and if you break the tuber, you get new plants from each piece. Garden centers have the answer. Why not just bring some to a center and find out for sure?

You will have to dig out each clump, making sure you get all the bulb roots.... you can use what you dig up ... dry them or chop and freeze them... but yeah, digging up each cluster is about all you can do to get them out and not make it a bigger mess. (i am sure there are chemicals you could use but they would 'mush-ify' the plants and would be even messier

Why not eat them or use them in cooking. They are really very good and really good for your health. I like to pickle them and use them in salads. If you really must get rid of them, check with your local plant nursery. They have herbicides that will take care of them.

pull them up before they go to seed. it will probably take you all summer of checking and pulling but if you do next year you shouldn't have this problem.
