Our lawn is more weeds than grass. What would be the best fertilizer to use this spring? And when is it best to apply it - when the weather is going to be dry for a few days, or when rain is in the forecast?

If you're using just fertilizer, Fertilize before rain. If you're using weed-n-feed, you need to apply when you will have a few days with no rain. if you weed-n-feed, be SURE that you wet the foliage BEFORE applying. The leaves need to be wet for the weed killer to stick to them. After a couple of days, they will begin to curl up and die.

If it's just fertilizer, get yourself a large container of Weed-b-gone and spray your weeds with it.. do it when there's no rain in the forecast for a couple of days.

Good luck!

If there are lots of weeds, I would get a 'weed-n-feed' type fertilizer... dry... using a spreader that most 'feed stores' will borrow you if you buy the fertilizer there. and spread when there is going to be rain soon, or run your sprinklers. My husband will go apply the fertilizer while it is raining and it works great. some of the stubborn weeds, we will get 2-4D and spray on them to kill them completely, after the fertilizer has been on a couple weeks
