I wouldn't. I'd go by William or Will.
I don't know, those kinds of names have always annoyed me. People named Richard go by Dick and people named Robert go by Bobby... just annoys me to no end for some reason! If your name is Richard, then go by Richard, Rich or even Rick (the only exception I don't mind). If your name is Robert, then go by Robert or Rob, etc.
