I think it is possible to love more than one person at the same time. The important thing is that you don't act on your impulses. If you are in a relationship and should be committed to that person. If you think your love for the other person is getting in the way of your relationship, then you need to "tell your mate." If you can honestly say that your love for the other person has had no effect on your relationship and your feelings for your partner, then you probably don't need to say anything.

If you really cared about your "mate" you would not have got "inlove with someone else who's involved" in the first place.
So yes, tell him. So he can leave you.

It depends. If it's just a little crush that will go away, and that you intend to do nothing about, just forget about it - the quicker the better.
If it's more serious, and you feel you've lost the emotional connection to your partner over it, and think you won't get it back, then yes, it'd be better to tell them - they probably know something's up anyway.
