I think that is the case for most people out there, until they find someone that can actually love back the same way.
Love must be unconditional, this means when you really love someone, you would do anything to please and protect him/her, and will do as many sacrifices as well. All this without expecting or asking anything in return.
If the other person loves you back, you only need good communication and you have a perfect relation (perfect as it has whe is needed, still nothing is perfect in this world).
If the other person doesn’t loves you back, then you have two options, keep trying to make him/her fall in love with you, or give up and move on. You can’t force anybody to love you, you can try to conquer love, but is a battle that can only be won if the other person is willing to try, and actually falls in love with you.
Why do you think divorce rate is so high? Because hardly anybody understand those simple but elemental facts.

Love is a 2-way thing. Don't waste your time on someone who doesn't want anything to do with you

I think it is more likely that you're in love with the "idea" of a person, not the person themselves.....you can't say you love someone you don't really know.
