Can anyone explain "An American Haunting?"?

I just watched it last night and my boyfriend kinda explained to me that she killed her father because he raped her...but the part where he's in the bed with her and the mom drops that candle happens after things start happening. And what about the person they saw on the roof? Was the other girl, the dead one, supposed to be her sister and the same thing happened to her? i just done get it. Or what was happening to her for that matter.

Actually it was her spirit.When her father did those things to her she lost her innocence and spirit.That is what the other little girl represented.You see the spirit haunted her also because she blocked the events out,so the spirit was trying to make her remember what happened.The mother also blocked it out.I hope that was helpful.

Yeah her father was abusing her. Think the idea some have is the girl kinda manifested a poltergeist. Disgusted with her self and resentful to her father. Meant to be based on the notion this was the only time ever a ghost has physically killed someone. It's pretty well documented.

It is not just you, I found it confusing (and stupid) too. Apparantly, the dead girl must have had the same thing happen to her and was trying to let the mother know what was going on with her daughter. Why it was also attacking the girl is beyond me. The father was molesting the daughter.

I did not get it really either. I rented it because I love Sissy Spasek and Robert Duvall, but man this was out there. I get the idea that her Dad was abusing her. And I get that she was creating these poltergeists in to mask the fact, but still does not explain the fact there really was something going on. Everyone else witnessed these ghosts too. I dont get it.
