They give the well established show breaks in order to introduce new shows, or to try to breath new life into struggling shows. They usually do this at a time when sweeps are not an issue - like January. Then they bring back the well established shows around April so they can have their finales in May, which is a large sweeps month. They also introduce the well established reality shows (American Idol) in Feb. so it can have its finale during May sweeps.
So have no fear, I'm sure your shows will be back pretty soon, and probably have a pretty good string of new episodes leading up to their finales, since May is less than two months away.

They do that for two reasons. They want to see how many fans of the show will stay loyal to the show even during their breaks. They also do it to see if they can pick up some new fans of the shows. I understand why they do it because it's a good marketing strategy. But it does get annoying when they do it.

likely this become using author's Guild strike that we had right here, in the U. S.. little doubt the united kingdom only hasn't have been given the clean episodes yet. You and maximum places international huge, get them properly whilst they are broadcast right here in the U. S.. We only ended the season. So little doubt you will see them quickly. The episode you final observed, become completed at with reference to the time of the strike.

They did that to Bones too and now to Heroes, they suck.. They only do it to popular shows because they have a really committed audience so they can use us a guinea pigs to test new shows or waste our time with 2 hrs of crappy american idol

annoying isn't it? it is the hope of the network that you'll watch the show they fill in with. that way they can tell if it will be popular enough to put in a regular time slot. drives me crazy. i wish they'd do it in the off season but people watch less t.v. in the summer.

I dunno, probably some market research or somethign shows that people don't watch much tv during these weeks.
so they take breaks in between seasons and only show new shows when they can get the highest ratings
