I have recently upgraded my broadband speed from 2mb to 8mb. I expected this to speed up my Limewire download speeds quite significantly, but it appears to have made little or no difference. Is it something I'm doing, or is there a better way to configure the settings for faster downloads?

There might just be very little sources for the files you are looking for, or their connection is slow. Look on the far right tab for what type of connection they use.

You could try using iolo's Internet optimizer, but that might not work for limewire, besides, you'd have to pay for that too.

Try using internet optimizers, close down other unnecessary commands and processes and try again. If it doesnt make a difference, it is the uploaders speed which is slow.

on the limewire go tools-option on the right corner look for the speed tab then change your connection speed to optimize your speed. but if you already set this up. the problem is from the source of the file, some source limit their upload bandwidth. or the source is using slow connection.

Your connection speed is not the only factor. It also has to do with the speed of the connection from the source you are downloading from. If the person you are getting the file from is on a phone line, there is nothing you can do to speed that up.

Unfortuneatly, the type of software that limewire is, it doesn't use bandwidth as efficiently as the .torrent technology.

The only reason that I use limewire anymore is for audio, other than that I don't bother cause it's so slow.

It depends how many sources [people] you have to download your file from. Its not YOUR connection speed, its the source's conenction speed your download depends on
