Here are some tips to help you get better:

1. Watch the ball closely and try to hit it on the center of your strings. This adds power to your shot and also reduces weak shots and errors. Many good players miss shots because they did not do this. Its important for advanced players, so for a beginner its essential! To prove my point have you ever seen how closely Roger Federer watches the ball?

2. Contact the ball squarely in front of your body.Slightly in front of your front hip.

3. Take a nice full swing at the ball.No poking or hacking at the ball. This only appliable on groundstrokes and serves. On volleys take a short bakswing and punch at the ball.

4. Apply slight topspin to most shots. At this stage dont try to do anything fancy. Just nice and deep .

5. Move your feet and get in position quickly for the shot. Beginners sometimes forget their feet.

6. swing low to high with a vertical racquet face. Bend your knees.

For advanced stuff you might want to go to a coach. But I think this is good for a start.

To build strength heres a good and easy drill.
Put a racquet cover on your racquet and keep swinging with good form. Later you might want to put a couple of tenis balls inside the cover to add weight.

Good luck! Hope it helps!

P.S. I'm a 5.0 teaching pro.

You need to take your racquet and go outside. Find a big, tall wide wall and practice on it. Just hit the ball and you will eventually get better shots.

After that find a player with a higher skill than you. Kindly ask him to give you easy balls and try to do long rallies rather than trying to make a winner. Eventually you will get better within a month if you keep to this schedule and play like 2-3 hours 3-4 times a week.

A simple solution would be to keep your wrist firm and your racquet strings vertical on contact with each ball. Control the strings and you've mastered the game.

Keep your racquet level during your entire swing (facing out).
Force yourself to take one extra step when chasing the ball - be there and in the correct posture to execute your swing .

Well, what is the problem? Is your groundstrokes messing up? Are your other hits inconsistent? Please be more specific.
