There is no federal law that allows workers 8 hours between shifts; however, there are some States that have guidelines and laws...it would depend on the State where you work.

It also depends on whether you are in a Union, or in a field where you are on-call for a 24 hr period (ex: firemen).

Depends on the state. Most states require a minimum length of one shift (8 hrs on, 8 hrs off, 12 hrs on, 12 hrs off, etc.)

Unless you live in a 'right to work' state the minimum is 8 hours I believe.
