I just want to make sure I know what I'm getting. There is an aerial up there at the moment. Is it their job to take it away once its disassembled? What about extra channels? The reception I get at the moment is dreadful but I only get BB1, 2, ITV and Channel four. With a new aerial will I be able to get more channels? Thanks

£200 is expensive. For that money I would expect a very good service. Check that they are a reputable firm with a proper business address. Don't pay anything at all untill they've finished the work according to the minimum requirements listed below.

Phone around for other quotes. Don't take the cheapest. If someone charges less than £80 then challenge the quality of the aerial and cable that they're fitting.

You should expect (for that price) at least a 12 element array aerial (count the number of cross-pieces in front of the reflector grid it should be at least 13 including the dipole itself)
AND a complete new cable all the way to your televison set (or set top freeveiw box)
AND complete new mounting brackets.
AND They should also align your new aerial to the nearest transmitter using an appropriate signal strengh meter (not just rely on looking at the telly).
AND they should remove the old aerial and its brackets (this will prove that they have fitted new ones) and the old cable.

Aerial mounting brackets deteriorate over time so you must replace them. The cable also loses its efficiency over time.
You should get an immediate improvement in your reception. Whether you get new channels depends on whether they're available in your area. Ask the aerial installer to check the tuning of your set.

A freeview box (about £30) needs a good signal (which your should now have) and will give you about 20 extra channels.

What does it say in the Tenancy contract ? If there is no point out of an aerial, on your difficulty i might ask the tenant to tell me what style of aerial he needed and how plenty it would fee to furnish and in good shape. except it become an exorbitant volume, i might cough up, and then whilst the TA comes up for renewal, make certain that the lease rises to mirror the cost of a particular new aerial. a) it keeps the tenant satisfied, and if he's a good tenant, you could need to maintain him and keep away from the complication of looking yet another b) as quickly as that aerial is up there, it provides to the fee of the enable, so if/once you're searching for for a clean tenant, the enable would be extra beautiful.

The first thing is to check that they are members of the CAI (Confederation of Aerial Installers) as they would need to be qualified to be a member.

Also, it may be worth getting some other quotes - it can make a huge difference. One rule of thumb is to get three quotes and go for the middle one - the cheapest may not be the best (for example they may opt to use cheap materials which will wear out and fail quicker).

Once a new aerial is up it would be worth looking at getting a Freeview box (£25 upwards). This should get you about 30 free TV stations.

I dont know what area you live in South or what but here in the midlands it would only cost max £90 and I should know as ex husband had one put up not long ago.
He got his out of yellow Pages and shopped around a good neat job done too.
As for freebox trust me on this it is no good unless you have a good ariel, I had good ariel for channel 1234 and 5 however when I installed a freeview box I only got a few so now I am going to have a roof ariel fitted and I will get them all.
I had somone out to fix my DVD player and he said roof ariel is best and then I will pick up all channels.
My guess they will be in for rip off due to all going digical and use that as excuse so shop around.

Angie. Say NO! You can do it yourself. Anyway, have you got one of those freeview boxes? they're only about £25 upwards, and some are strong that all you need is your old aerial

Do it yourself but whatever you do don't take advice from the Rod Hull guide to Aerial installation.
