Gossiping is a form of weapon. Although you might not be lying the person you're talking about may not want everybody to know what you're telling.

The word is being used these days to keep truth from surfacing.
Gossiping used to be spoken words that caused pain -because- they were based on dishonesty, events blown way out of proportion, events that never occurred, or end up being projection(someone describing a persons behavior to be what they are actually doing). Although this still takes place there are always those who speak the truth and in a dangerous or unhealthy situation could mean a person choosing to call another person a gossiper (which would be a lie) and actively choosing to be manipulative and adding to the problem. This happens when leadership skills do not exist altho the claim of title is present. These people usually have an agenda or behavior problem. If truth needs to be covered up something is definately going wrong.

Gossiping has the potential to hurt a lot of people. I am in the Army and we have something called the "rumor mill". This is essentially Soldiers and their spouses speculating about a situation or individuals. Spouses create particularly bad situation when they start talking about other spouses and what they are doing. Gossiping is in my mind spreading half truths or straight out lies, each of which can be very harmful.

Usually gossiping are lies that are based on the facts. You twist the facts to hurt someone else's reputation, and even if you don't mean to, gossiping can really hurt other people. It is bad, but those who do it aren't necessarily bad people, they're just doing something they shouldn't do. Hope that helps, God bless.

Gossiping can be a vicious circle. It's can start behind a person's back and usually ends up right back in someone's face.

Gossip is usually "untrue" or blown so out of proportion that the original story doesn't even come close ... plus it can hurt people...Just keep your mouth shut and go on about your own business.
