i am travelling to hurghada on 30/3/07 for 7 nights but would like to go to cairo for the day by plane. i am at a loss as what to do, should i book in advance online? if so who is a reputable company? or would it be better to book once we get there? we want to go with a company that provides flights, transfers, lunch entrance fees etc. and they average price is £150 which we don't mind paying.

if your close enough you should be able to book it through your travel rep, i done that trip from sharm-el-sheik and i just got back from Cyprus and it could also be booked there. is a great day out, we visited the pyramids and the Sphinx. went round the Cairo museum, a papyrus work shop and had lunch at a top restaurant.

http://www.egyptair.com.eg/english/

this web site is egypt air site they are the main provider of internal flights in egypt. have a look here and check out flight times and prices. maybe you can book the flight you want now.
now you can book when you arrive in egypt just find an egypt air office to book or your hotel concierge can help you (but he will take commision) Or you can book with your tour rep and do the whole tour with them coaches etc inc.
If you intend doing this alone, book an early flight out late flight back e.g. monday 2 april leave 6.50 return 2300 cost 493 egyptian pounds about £50( little less) then either take a taxi into town(100 Egyptian max. negotiate and argue for price in egyptian and for whole party) or the bus ( cant help you about bus im afraid only ever taken taxis) decide what you want to see first, maybe museum or pyramids, entrance cant remember but not alot maybe 40 or 50 go to sight you can either ask taxi to wait ( in which case negotiate your whole day price set out all you want to do and ask for whole price. DO NOT accept him leaving it open, tie it down)
or pick up another later. then go to pyramids Journey times about 30 mins to museum 1 hour to pyramids depending on traffic, eat either at museum ( burger bar just to left of main entrance or go to mena house hotel just outside pyramids Or theres a restuarant just out side pyramids opposite sphinx (lovely view especially at night) or meridian pyramids nice restaurants too. Evening could try Khan el khalil tradition medieval shopping place in cairo, catch return flight.
but if you want the whole package then it makes little difference if you book now or when you get there. just go with your tour operator. if you going to hurghada independantly dont worry there will lots of people trying to get you to book with them. but book early

hope you enjoy it and hope this helpful.
