None of it is real.
This is more easily understandable if one considers the actual scale of the components of an atom. If one takes into account the fact that the neutrons, protons and electrons of an atom actually have huge spaces between them it becomes clear that the atoms that make up seemingly solid objects are made up of 99+ percent empty space.
This alone does not seem too important till you add the idea that the atoms that make up seemingly solid objects are more of a loose conglomeration that share a similar attraction but never really touch each other.
At first glance this does not really seem relevant, but closer analysis reveals that this adds a tremendous amount of empty space to solid objects that are already made up of atoms that are 99 percent space. When so-called solid objects are seen in this light it becomes apparent that they can in no way be the seemingly solid objects they appear to be.
We ourselves are not exceptions to this phenomenon.
These seemingly solid objects are more like ghostly images that we interpret as solid objects based on our perceptual conclusions.
From this we must conclude that Perception is some sort of a trick that helps us to take these ghostly images and turn them into a world we can associate and interact with. This clever device seems to be a creation of our intellect that enables us to interact with each other in what appears to be a three dimensional reality.
I hope that helps to answered your question.
Love and blessings Don

We don't.
It is probably impossible.
We think we know 'reality' but we cannot know what is real because we only know what we have experienced and we only chose believe what other people have experienced. What if the keyboard that I'm typing on right now isn't real? How will affect me? As a person; it won't.
I only know that this keyboard is here and what it feels like is from my own events that have happened to me. This is what it feels like, not what it truely 'is'. Its a difficult concept to grasp and you can't dwell on it too much otherwise you will not be happy with your own inevitable ignorance. Its sad but most likely to be true. We, as a race, probably know more than others, but we also know barely anything... its very interesting isnt it?!!!

--OUR 5 SENSES can help, but there is also the factor of the mind and TRUE Faith---, Not blind faith or credulity--which is almost always advocated by religions.
--Here is the definition of the Bible's faith:
(Hebrews 11:1) “11 Faith is the *assured expectation of things hoped for, the **evident demonstration of ***realities though not beheld. . .”
Footnotes(show the derivation of the words used)
*“Assured expectation.” Lit., “a sub-standing.” Gr., hy·po′sta·sis; Lat., sub·stan′ti·a.
**“Evident demonstration.” Or, “convincing evidence.” Gr., e′leg·khos; Lat., ar·gu·men′tum. Compare Joh 16:8 ftn.
***Lit., “of things.” Gr., prag·ma´ton.
--If you note the footnotes deal with things in True science that are involved with the 4 steps of the "scientific method."

How "REAL" someone is TO YOU, is based on time. It takes a while to truly LEARN someone and that someone to LEARN you.....Marriage is a prime example. Living with a person and merely knowing a person are two huge differences. After living with someone they may be just right for you or..... could be your worst nightmare.

You don't but you have faith to your eyes. People need to have the feeling that they know what happening around even when they don't.

Descartes is well known for "Cogito ego sum," I think therefore I am. Going through his writings you pick up on his idea "I doubt, therefore I think, therefore I am."
