You hit it on the head. No pun intended. No injury and he gets 2 minutes for roughing, maybe 4. Watch the replay (again) and you see them both chirping at each other down the ice. Coming back up the ice Bert grabs Moore's jersey...gives a tug....says something to him, then punches him in the side of the face. Moore got what he wanted.....at first....and that was to get Bert to react. What he didn't want was both teams piling on him. Absolute freak accident.

I agree with you. I have said before that a gloved punch to the side of the head is not the worst thing that has ever happened. It wan't entirely a sucker punch as he was trying to get Moore to fight. He was pulling on his jersey and challenging him. Moore was being called out for taking a run at another Canuck. i have also read that the damage to the neck was inadvertently caused by his teammates piling on to the back of Bertuzzi.
That said. I don't have any respect for Bertuzzi after this hit. Todd was already in decline. His production from the previous year had dropped off sharply, he was fighting all the time and becoming a locker room distraction. Donaly Brashear was traded away because they were hanging out together and getting into trouble. I don't think Bert was sticking up for his teammates. I think he was taking out his frustrations from his own situations. I don't want him on my wings.

I'm not an overly sensitive person, but looking back at that series of events, he was so in the wrong. I understand your point kept the gloves on, but again consider the situation. Bertuzzi pissed about something that happened in a previous game against the Av's, attacked a player that was an innocent by stander cheap shot ting him by nailing him in the back of the head then falling on top of him and pounding his head into the ice for a while longer. Forget about how long Bertuzzi got suspended, and we can even forget about the fact that he ended Moores career, he could of killed the guy! I think above all else that speaks volumes about thinks. While he may have kept his gloves on the blows he gave Moore were obviously severe enough that it ended his career, and I don't care who you are no one should have the right to do that to someone else.

Rich you are wrong. There was intent. It was premeditated. The incident with naslund and moore and the incident with bertuzzi and moore didn't occur in the same game. It was an intent to injure. Cripple, no but definitely injure. Naslund said what moore did was not dirty. If it happened in the same game at that moment maybe you would have a case. This was I believe four days after the moore/naslund thing. Maybe it was three. But more than enough time for cooler heads to previal. Bertuzzi was selfish. He did not do it for naslund. Do I believe he is remorseful yes but I also think he was stupid and selfish. Not just for what he did to moore but what he did to the canucks as well.

It was a horrible hit. He didn't have the intent to cripple, but he did have the intent to injure. He pretty much threw a punch, then put force on his neck/head when it was going into the ice, I'd say that's intentional. He could of eased up and not pushed his head into the ice. It was first a punch, then full force on his head. I'd be so happy if Moore came back and just knocked Bertuzzi out cold, and I'd be cheering for sure after that cheap shot.

First off, i know Bert personally and coached his wife Julie when Bert played Jr. In Guelph for the Storm. He is a player that plays with 100% intensity all the time. He plays with heart ,passion and plays to win (and is also paid to win). I honestly believe that he did not intentionally intend to injure Moore to the extent that he did or for that matter end Moores career. This being said, I think if two individuals are going to square off and fight, drop the gloves and do it face to face. I don't agree what Bert did but lets move on with it. There have been far worse things this year we could discuss, like the Simons incident.

It was more than a punch "gone wrong". Bertuzzi still collects a healthy paycheck and Steve Morre will probably never play again.
I agree that Bertuzzi didn't intend for the results to be what they were. He didn't think.
That's exactly it. HE DIDN'T THINK. Maybe if the NHL finally shows some guts and suspends these people for life (and I'm not holding my breath) the next person WILL think before doing something like that.

I agree. Todd was wrong to hit from behind but if you really watch the filmclips, I believe it's clear it wasn't all caused by that hit. You don't see Moore's head snap back a bit until all the other players (including his teammates) jump on top of them all. If you ask me, everyone should have been held liable...Todd maybe a little more for starting it...but then it's hockey - that stuff happens.
Chris Simon's slash to the face this week was a real cheap shot. Deliberate and bad for hockey's reputation.
But people have to realize hockey is a physical sport. If you're not a big boy, you shouldn't play.

Ok there was intent in this incident, but not to break Moore's neck. If the NHL thought that Bertuzzi wanted to hurt Moore as badly as he did, Bertuzzi's suspension would have been a lot longer. It was a dirty hit that went horribly wrong, and its been 3 years, can we please get over it already.

in a game that the two teams played earlier in the season, steve moore legitimately hit markus naslund. naslund fell awkwardly, causing him to sprain his wrist. he missed about two weeks (5 or 6 games). after the game, todd bertuzzi and brad may (who now plays for colorado) got together and decided to pay steve moore back for what they thought was an inappropriate hit on their team's best player. during the game, if you see the clip, you can watch todd bertuzzi stalk steve moore up and down the ice. when moore is facing the other way, bertuzzi skates up behind him, grabs the back of his head and drives it into the ice. watch steve moore laying there in a pool of blood, unconscious, and imagine what it must be like to be him at that moment, getting that for simply doing you job, and then tell me what you think
