2. 0.000345
3. 5280
4. 2,398,730,000,000

Simply, you must put a dot between the first and the second number, avoid the first and second number to be zero, then multiply it by 10^(x), where "x" is the number of "steps" if you used, you'll return to the original place !
1. 514000 = 5.14 x 10^(5).
2. 0.000345 = 3.45 x 10^(-4).
3. 5280 = 5.2 x 10^(3).
4. 2,398,730,000,000 = 2.39873 x 10^(12).
5. 0.00000000000999 = 9.9 x 10^(-12).
Goodluck.

this is my trick..

note 1) Every scientific notation HAS to be converted to a decimal number between 0-9.

so for question 1 you would convert 514,000 to 5.14. I like to think that the number of units you moved from the original decimal is a frog leap.

so for the same question: 514,000 is the same as 514,000. 0 which means that I have taken 5 leaps from that decimal point to get to 5.14

note 2) okay, now you have 5.14 but you took 5 leaps and leaps to the left are positive

ANSWER: 5.14 x 10^5

TEST IT: Now if you want to test it then just take 5 leaps forward and you end up with the original number (514,000)

It's the opposite for question 5 -

to get 9.99 we're taking 12 leaps forward which means 10^ -12 so scientific notation is 9.99 x 10^-12
