I get cold sores several times a year and have ever since I was a kid. I could never use Abreva or any of the other remedies you find in pharmacies because you're supposed to use them at the first sign. My first sign is them breaking out in a large blister on my lip. Unfortuately, my experience is if I leave them alone, they just keep growing and growing, or I get several more in the same spot. What I have to do is open them up so they can drain. Then I'll use Carmex to help keep my lips soft while the spot heals. That's what works best for me.

i've suffered from cold sores for years and i've tried everything on the market. I find the best thing to use is Blistex (the real stuff, not boots/superdrug versions..), keep putting it on as often as you can remember. I find that it stops it really developing or blistering that much and I can get rid of a cold sore in about a week using it. For the last few days its only a little mark which can be covered with lip gloss. hope your fella appreciates your efforts, have fun :o)

I suffer from cold sores i hate them, get hot salty water and cotton wool dab it with it for ten minutes the salt and hot water kills it, dont keep it to moist as this will only make the cold sore last longer out a little bit of veseline over it once you didi the salty water and that will keep it slightly mosit but let it try up at the same time, do the salty water at night before you go to bed it works, Good luck!!

Get an ice cube, wrap in a tissue and place against the cold sore to numb it. Zovirax is good when the tingle is around, but not as effective once the sore has come up - but still use it.
Some people swear by putting neat alcohol on it, or perfume, but this is nasty and stings like hell. Apply vaseline liberally, especially at night. But the ice cube does work - trust me!!

I'v always used Carmex. I think that one is the best. And cheapest too! About a 1.30 for a little jar that lasts a long time. It's where all the chap stix and stuff are.

I would go with the honey answer. Its proven. The only other thing I can think of is to dab perfume on it, it dries it out but then again, so will vinegar etc. Keep it dry.
