1000M mosque still wouldn't make Britain a muslim country it just shows that they might be insecure about their place in society as a culture, probably due to the backlash from 9/11 against them.

You people would do well to get in touch with the people of Dudley West Midlands the council there kicked out the planning aplication for a huge site to build a bloody big mosque and islamic centre. But this was only turned down after a fierce campaign by local people.Like the East End there are many mosques up here .

I expect by 2012 all other religions will be banned when the PC brigade have finished their efficient job.
I have no problem with the building of another mosque in the East End of London (I never knew how they got permission to build one in Regents Park years ago) but I object to the Muslim statement that it is to represent and welcome visitors to Britain for the Olympics which is (was) a Christian country. I would like the Muslim community give us the same respect as we give them. I know this seems like a sweeping comment and I know there are some really very nice decent people but the media seem to give to much coverage to the nasty clerics that preach hatred about us infidels.
Would we be allowed to build a church of a similar size in an Arab state? An old saying comes to mind where our government is concerned "Where there's muck there's brass"

Nice big target for a 747, and dont forget sunnies hate the shittites and vice versa more than they hate Americans and Christians. Sounds like a step too far but it could make a nice indoor swimming pool if the BNP get more councillors,
My guess it is a BNP rumour, a BNP recruiting campaign or a dammed good scam to rake in loads of Lottery money and set some Islamic builders up for life.

It takes the mick. Funny how Christians can't build churches in Muslim countries. Talk about giving an inch and taking a mile.

There's going to be a big war between Islam and Christianity one of these days..it's going to kick off big time. People in the Western World won't stand it anymore but Islam won't take no for an answer.

You know, I frequently go to my sisters in Bahrain, she has lived there for 10 years and at the back of her villa is a mosque that is about half the proposed size. It is brilliant white and at night the minaret's are light with bright green-white light - looks remarkable. And it is a nice sound when they are doing the call to prayer. I am not a muslim but I can appreciate what it is they want to achieve.

I don't know why it has to be so iconic, but at the very least, it if is going to be a testament to London's already renowned ability to deal with cultures and religion, then, it can only be a good thing, perhaps then, the smaller mosque's will close in favour of using the bigger one.

So you don't have to see 15 on the way to work.

Masjid is place of worship.
Does not matter how big and fascinating it is.
Fascination of a Masjid is Worship of One True God Almighty.
Every Prophet of Almighty God made a place for Worship to God Almighty. Every Muslim has to follow that same tradition of Holy Prophets.
I invite every person to come /go any Masjid and find your self what Muslims do there.
How they worship and pray for Humanity. I guarantee you will clear your mind when you will come out of Masjid(Place of worship to Almighty God)
In Aramaic (language of Prophet Jesus) it ELAI for God Almighty, in Arabic it is ALLAH.
Aramaic is no longer an active language, but sister language Arabic is still active and spoken by a large number of world population and more then that population can read and understand some how this language.
Even Christian Arabs use Allah for God Almighty, because Allah is the proper name of Almighty.

At one time there were churches all over the place. Now that western culture is as fast paced as it is we have grown accustomed to not regularly visiting churches. Followers of Islam are likely to visit the local mosque but you will see that most mosques are not purpose built. Some are old pubs or wharehouses etc. In asian countries mosques can be very extravagant (like our Cathederals). Because the asian poulation is rising, so is their need for bigger places of worship.
There is no point questioning it, if christians visited church more often then there would be more churches.

Think of it like this: if you are planning to take a place over, does it not make sense to quietly get the infrastructure in place? Why does a faith that professes to care about the poor need to spend so much money?

I know it is ridiculous!! Considering that the muslim religion is a minority in this country and they want to build some humongous mosque is just asking for trouble!! If the governement thinks this going to help race relations in this country they are wrong, just like they are wrong about everything!!
