I think in all things, it takes time to form relationships. I guess when you really need a friend at your most vulnerable time and that person is there, then you'll know.

The best way to identify a good person in terms of friendship is when they listen to you when you tell them some of your problems. They do not get mad or angry at you when you give them a card, gift, and candy for each holiday even if they are in a relationship with someone else.

Normally I'd say look out for the two-faced people, but I've experienced it where I just brought out the best in that person. She was very honest saying "I'm not like this with anybody else." Does that mean I shouldn't stay friends with her?

A good friend should be trustworthy at all times, whether the other person is around or not.

If they are a good person and friend they will never do any thing behind your back that they wouldn't do to your face.

see if he/she stands by you when you needed some1 to talk to.. i think that the most impotant quality in friendship is trust, honesty, respect and loyalty.. try to learn more about him/her and maybe you can ask someone about him/her but not too obvious.. if you found out that he/she is not the type of friend that you want to "mix" with, then try not to "mix" with them.. and of course, they say dont judge a book by its cover, so, dont judge someone by the looks.. it may deceive!! and dont get "drowned" in your imagination about the looks.. after all, a friend in need is a friend indeed!!! good luck in choosing the right friends!!
