It's either the Alternator or the battery.

Change the batter first - if that doesn't fix it, swap out the Alternator.

NB> I assume the Car more than 5 years old & has no computer Diagnostics port. If the car is more that 25-35 years old, it might be the voltage reg. (in those days some cars had Dynamo's and the Voltage regurator was a seperate box).

remove the battery and have a discharge test performed by auto electriction or lucas refit a fully charged battery on the vehicle. if starter not working remove and submit this for testing. as a time saving precaution take the altenor as well. with the basics working on the vehicle detection of further faults is now possible.

Dud battery, corroded battery terminals, faulty alternator (but the ignition light should glow if this is the case) slipping drive belt, low water in battery cells, poor earthing of battery negative. Most electrical problems are poor earth connections.
