Talk with them; Say what you want to do and WHY. Let them respond. If you are a responsible parent then thats the most respectful way to treat them, since in my view Respect is a two way street.
That way you can filter the right things, and they will not think badly of you

I would suggest the computer being in the family room first and not behind closed doors.
Then talk to your kids about what all is out there trying to reach younger people on a computer and you are concerned as a parent should be for their safety. Tell them you would like for them to not delete things but for you both to sit down together and go over unsolicited emails they get .....not from their friends but "unsolicited" emails and such.
You can also deny them purchasing the chat programs out there until they are at an older age....most require age 18 to buy but some have gotten caught on ispq I know and when reported lost their program anyway.
So, simply put just talk to the kids about security and such and ask that anything in doubt you would like to see it.

This is one of the interesting questions I would like to answer to, if I have more details. Maybe someone else knows what were you talking about that I don't. Children could be a heartache and worried about sometime to some parents. Hang in there.

You want them to stay farther apart from you? Unless you think they are into something really bad, you should respect there privacy. But if you are worried just sit down and talk to them...That way they will know that you are there in case they do need to talk to you.
