My partner uses TightVNC, to control his PC from anywhere. He also puts it on the PCs owned by his family and friends, so if they have problems, he remotely work with their PCs to fix them. He seems very happy with it!

Look at the Linux boards, Open Source Linux, not MSLinucks. It is all gonna be one someday, but Free as in Free to make it work when it doesn't is alot different that binary, registry buggy proprietary junk.
OpenVNC or and VNC is stable in Linux, that is why Microspft bought a section of what they say is unstable and loses $ in the Get the Facts campaign they ran fir years.
Ubuntu Linux will fit on 4g or less of a Hard Drive and allow you to use Netwroking any way you want on any PC you want. No license fee if one breaks and you want or have to use it on another.
Think Freedom Think for yourself.
You can use the natural TCP/IP networking stacks, that is UNIX, Linux makes it easy.
