I was just reading the news and was wondering what thoughts you lovely people have on the topic. Do you think that parents have the right to know that teenagers get contraceptives and abortions? do you agree with the conservatives?

LONDON (Reuters) - A Conservative MP is trying to get the law changed to give parents the right to know before their under-age daughters are given contraception or are having an abortion.

Personnaly I do not believe in abortion,
A) Because I dont agrre with termination of something beautiful or a mistake
B) I believe it can be harmful to your body,
But If a woman is raped and falls pregnant then do it.

Children, little girls, young "ladies" dont know proper value of life now a day... its not instilled on them... and if they cant keep there legs together to keep there viginity secret to BOYS then why must they keep it from there parents who will be there for them 90% of the time no matter what....

I am totally against abortion with the exception that the mother's life is in danger of dying. Only than abortion must be performed. But if you accidently create a life, it's murder to kill it. There are so many couples out there wanting children, abortion is just wrong. Give the baby to these loving couples. Let the baby live. Parents, teach teen-ager girls and boys about sex. Today it's treated like nothing special and it is. Make sure they know what can happen to them.

If abortion is to be legal, the time it is most needed is when a expectant mother is in her early teens. She is in no position to keep or raise the infant and a full term pregnancy may injure her physical (but probably not mental) health, temporarily or permanently. Parents should know when a girl (and I use the word advisedly) is to have an abortion. Contraception, well I'm not sure. After the age of 15, perhaps not. Before, well probably.

This problem is caused in part by maintaining an "age of consent" which may no longer be valid. While the age varies from one jurisdiction to another, it may be wise to lower the age limit by a year or perhaps two in some places. Maybe 15. I would not suggest any lower.

Yes, leave the laws alone as they are.

Some parents would stop their daughters having a termination which would be inappropiate - for goodness sakes, they are still teenagers. Their bodies haven't fully developed yet. Yet anti abortionists can't see that 12 and 13 year olds are not capable of bearing children. They are too wrapped up in their own agenda, and I think this MP is part of it.

Write to your MP and make sure they vote against it.

Legal abortion is not free. The parents have the right to know what is being done with their money. In the past before the era of mollycoddling, teenagers were out on the street, working as au pairs or waitresses and had their own source of income.

"Teenagers" (anyone between 13-20) might also be college students! It isn't the parents business if they think a child will ruin a career they might have and the partner will pay for it. However they ought to tell the parents if an abortion clinic charge is going to show up on a card their parents pay the charges for.

No if a child feels she cannot talk to a parent it should not be forced. It might mean a teenager does not go to the doctor because it is not confidential anymore. Quite frankly I'd rather a teenager sneaked off to the doctor in order to get hold of contraception rather than not using it at all.
Some parents are wonderful and very easy to talk to but not every parent is like that.

I feel it is unjust to let parents know as it always falls on the girls. A parent may be told that there daughter is taking a contraceptive, but they will never be told that there son is having sex.
Both sexes should be made to feel responsible for their secual activity, yes girls may fall pregnant and need an abortion, but they didn't fall pregnant all by themselves.

Abortion is tragic and for teenagers to fall pregnant is bad enough without them having to resort to an abortion

But no one who has an abortion will do it lightly and the mental scars will be there for a long time. I believe 100% in a womans right to choose.

I'm a parent with four children, teenage and above and don't think the parents have a right to know. Those 'teens' have adult bodies and need to have the right to make their own decisions on the issue.

Hell no. If the parents have been that good that the kid hasn't had the sense to not to get knocked up and is too scared to tell their own parents, what kind of response are they likely to get if some smug **** in a suit and insincere smile gets to break the news?

Better widen the hospital steps to make way for more baby dumping if that one goes ahead.

Forcing a teenage girl to go to her parents is part of the reason teen pregnancy rates are so high. These girls, whether it's right or wrong are sexually active and are trying to be responsible and not get pregnant. It's 2007. Let's realize that preaching abstinence is not working.
