in a 98 Ford windstar 3.0. Van will not start doesn't even turn over. Friend says it's the ignition switch, but I think it's the altanator. No dash lights come on or nothing when I try to turn over. Is it the ignition switch or could it possibly be something else?

also when I drive it will cut off on it's own when it comes to a stop sign and then I could start it back up. Now it will not even start anymore. I did replace the alt. about 6 months ago with a rebuilt alt. hoping that is what it is.

your friend could be right.a bad ignition switch can do that,if its bad.if a switch is bad, then it will cut off all power to the electrical circuts.

Sounds like a battery, if you can jump it and it starts, then more than likely its the battery! If it doesn't start then it may be the ignition switch on the steering column.
