Its changed so much over thousands of years, it cant described well without writing an essay! Each era and part of the world has a different story to tell.
In a nutshell a womans role has always been looked upon as pro-creating and raising offspring.
Since the Suffragettes, and having the right to vote, women are treated as they should be - equals. Gone are the days of men having women as sexual and domestic slaves.
