I was invited by a friend to join her friends list on MySpace and I ended up making me one. Now I read all this hacking, phishing, etc going on on MySpace.
Is this a real problem there? Am I putting myself at risk by having one? Seems like a lot have one on there.
I run several protection programs on my computer but just wondered about that.

There is A LOT of hacking, phishing, tracking, etc. on Myspace.

I would suggest the use of a proxy when accessing Myspace. This will at least prevent other Myspace users, who are utilising trackers, from being able to retrieve your actual IP address.

If you are careful, don't reveal any personal info, change your password from time to time, and only allow people you know personally outside of Myspace to be on your "friends" list, you should be ok.

Hacking is always a problem (and proficient hackers will always find ways to accomplish their ends). However, Myspace has recently beefed up their security in this area, so the risk of hackers should be no worse than for other sites.

I've never had a problem with myspace... just make sure you have a strong password with letters and numbers in it and make at least 10 characters long... the new Internet explorer has a good phishing filter so it will more then likely pick up any phishing websites.... the main thing to do is don't open you and web links from people you don't know on there and question people who want to be your friend to make sure there not BOT's.... :)

Yes, myspace is full of spyware and such. I had one friend who had a big problem with it including people posting on her account. I have a myspace but I only go to peoples pages who I know and stay away from anyone I don't know. I personally haven't had a problem

As long as you don't click advertisements you should be fine. That includes things people advertise in comments. Otherwise, I don't think you need to stress over it.
