Compare the sentences:

The water was at a temperature of 1 degree centigrade.

At the end of the experiment, the water was 1 centigrade degree warmer.

Strictly speaking (Not that anyone bothers nowadays!) 1 degree centigrade is a fixed temperature (just above the freezing point of water). 1 centigrade degree is an interval or measure of change.

In common English, no one under the age of a hundred would worry about it. The terms would be used interchangeably.

1 st usage is the correct one ( accepted by all nations) to indicate temperature on Celsius or Centigrade scale, whereas the second one is not. The second one indicates that 1 centigrade is an educational qualification!!!!
We say 'B A Degree' and not 'Degree B A'
